Hard to believe that it’s nearly a year since parts of the country were battered by the severe storms and unprecedented rainfall that lead to widespread flooding.

Housing Minister Caroline Flint today announced that 15 ‘potential locations’ have been identified as potential eco-towns and submitted for the next stage of planning:

"Building in existing towns and cities alone simply cannot provide enough new homes. I understand this is an issue that can raise strong opinions, but everyone now has the opportunity to express their views before any decisions are made - because this is an issue that affects us all."

Based on an evaluation of the bids, the Government also announced that no new homes would be built on Green Belt land.
