Founded as a single specialist shop on Goodge Street in 1961, Ryness has since grown into a generalist electrical supplies company with a network of fifteen shops in central London. Excellent value and a first port of call for all your electric essentials, Ryness is currently having a summer clearance on a range of selected items. A good one to snap up before the weather gets hot (I remain ever optimistic), this 12,000 BTU portable air conditioning unit has been reduced from £350 to £175. Now that’s a bargain. The Lombok summer sale may have ended three days ago but there are still discounts galore at its clearance store where pieces of solid, handmade furniture have been reduced by up to 70 per cent. Stock is updated on a weekly basis, and all pieces not sold in the sale are now available to buy at the clearance store while stocks last. Don’t miss the House Couturier summer sale this month where a selection of its fabrics, furniture, cushions and curtains have been reduced to make way for new stock.  Crystal lamps in burgundy are down from £395 to £149, black silk shades from £248 to £125 and Burgundy cushions with crystal trim (pictured) reduced from £169 to just £88. The sale ends 31st August 2007 - not one to miss.

There are few prepared to scrimp on cost at the expense of comfort when it comes to their beds, so when Cologne & Cotton holds a sale, it’s well worth getting down there. Offering up to 50 per cent on selected items, you can snap up “Josephine” single sheets reduced from £35 to £28, “Sateen Dotty” pillowcases down from £12.50 to £8.95 and quilts such as this “Fleur Quilt” (handmade in Rajasthan, no less) for £39.95 instead of the usual £65. Quality, comfortable bedlinen -minimal damage to the bank account. The sale ends 5th August 2007.

With the British weather living up to its reputation this summer, snuggling up on the sofa with a DVD has never been so appealing – particularly when the thing you’re snuggling up  to  is this luxury Mongolian cashmere throw from BLACK. Even the most crowd-shy home owners could be persuaded to brave the bustle of the Selfridges Summer Sale these coming weeks, where there are discounts of up to 75 per cent on all areas. 30 per cent off furniture at the Nine Schools, 30 per cent off Lulu Guinness, 30 per cent off Moser Crystal stemware, 50 per cent off Kenneth Turner scented candles and 20 per cent off a range of bedding.

Those with an eye for high design should beat a path to Covent Garden and the wonderful Aram Store, where there are discounts of up to 70 per cent on selected items. Lighting, furniture and accessories by top designers such as Alvar Aalto, Ron Arad, Zeev Aram and Eileen Gray (Aram Store holds global rights to produce and sell Eileen Gray furniture) all form part of the collection.

Another one worth adding to the summer sale hit list this month is the Online Sale taking place at Purves, where there is up to 50 per cent off furniture, home accessories and gifts. Chairs, tables, lamps and corkscrews and a whole host of design-led accessories from part of the collection reduced to clear with pieces such as this brightly coloured, toughened glass Joseph Joseph clock down from £28 to £18.
