The effects of the depresed housing market are certainly being felt in the Yorkshire and Humber region as the union UCATT claims that three quarters of construction workers in the region have been laid off.

With the state of the current market and many being unable to obtain mortgages, and it is a common sight to see new build houses on brand spanking new estates stand empty as they await a buyer, while a few metres away, where new houses should be being built, projects have been pulled and workers laid off.

With news about the housing slump and first time buyers being unable to get a mortgage, it’s good to hear about some sensible steps to try and help jump start the depressed housing market. 

A scheme in Jersey has been devised to help first-time buyers get on the property ladder.  Islanders who meet the strict criteria will be given 35% off the asking price under a shared equity scheme.

Claire Walton came back off holiday to find that her newly purchased home had been gutted by contractors due to a clerical error. 


Ms Walton of Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent had her home compulsorily purchased by the council and therefore agreed to buy 40 Ludlow Street.  However, she came back off holiday to find her new home had been gutted after contractors carried out work at the right number house but in the wrong street.
