According to Europe’s largest plumber training centre, the number of people applying to become a plumber has increased by over 30% in the last two months.
Building Trade Skills Centres say that they are currently handling more than 1,000 calls a week from people looking to enrol in their training centres in Manchester and Surrey.
It appears that traditional trades are bucking the trend of the economic slowdown, with 82% of plumbers saying that they are actually better off than a year ago.
BTSC managing director Allen Jackson said: “…there is a perception that, regardless of how bad the economy is, we will always need plumbers in a way which we perhaps do not for other professions. Pipes and taps will all eventually leak.
It seems that people are now seeing storm clouds gathering on the horizon, and are opting in greater and greater numbers to look for a traditional trade to help protect them.”
This news comes a month after we reported that plumbers are now using virtual reality video games to train.
