Millenium Estates, best-known for building the mansions of the rich and famous, has called in the administrators after the collapse of the property market in the North of England. Current projects, the Millenium Tower in Salford and buy-to-let investment project Alexandra Towers have failed to meet sales targets and forced the construction group to call in the administraters who will look for a purchaser.

Electrical retailer Empire Direct is the latest casualty of the credit crunch having called in the administrators and closed the doors to all of their stores due to low stock levels and operating losses.

Administrators Begbies Traynor have announced that the number of construction firms reported to have 'critical problems' rose by 190 per cent in the last 3 months of 2008.

There were 1103 building firms under extreme financial pressure in the last quarter of 2008 compared with 380 in the same period of 2007.

1) The world record for the sale of a Persian Rug was achieved by a 17th century silk Isfahan Rug which realised a sale price of $4,450,500 at Christies in New York in 2008.

Neighbourhood Challenge is a charity project designed to bring the local community of Wandsworth together by renovating part of a day centre in Wandsworth used by its elderly members.  The challenge is set to take place on Sat, 7th and Sun, 8th February, so if you’re a professional painter and decorator or have other building skills we’d love you to join us.
