Homeserve director Ian Carlisle quits

Home maintenance group Homeserve said Ian Carlisle, CEO of Emergency Services, is to quit the company next year.

The Emergency Services division will focus on responding to insurance claims and commercial partnerships. The management of claims and service delivery will switch to the UK Membership business.

Carlisle leaves the company on 31 January 2009.

House prices to drop a further 15%

Barclays Bank today predicted that house prices would fall a further 15%, which translates to a 30% peak to trough correction. John Varley, group chief executive of the high street bank, cited irresponsible lending as a contributing factor for the current economic crisis.

Varley's bleak outlook extended to the job market:

In the wake of MP Lynne Featherstone's harrowing ordeal involving her boiler, a whirring noise and a fire crew turning up to turn it off, Fire Service chiefs have issued a statement outlining details of what to do if your boiler starts making strange noises in the middle of the night.
