Energy Saving Trust responds to Government's announcement on family fuel bills

Commenting on today’s Government’s announcement that it is taking action to the tune of ?910 million on family fuel bills, Philip Sellwood, Chief Executive of the Energy Saving Trust, said:

“Making your home more energy efficient will be easier for people now there is more money for the needy and a nationwide marketing promoting the grants on offer.  But the devil is in the detail.

“We are pushing to make sure that  the money is spent on energy saving measures that will save people the most money and carbon like insulation  There are currently about 14.3 million home

The BBC is reporting that energy bills could soar by as much as 40 per cent this winter, with oil and gas prices hitting all time highs.

This could result in households in the UK paying up to ?400 more a year on average for their gas and electricity and will put even more pressure on homeowners already battling against high food and fuel costs.

So if you’re struggling with your bills, what can you do to ease the burden?

From April 6, all homeowners will be able to install micro generation equipment, like solar panels, without needing to get planning permission, as long as there is clearly no impact on others.

Currently, the energy used to heat, light and run our homes accounts for 27 per cent of all of the UK's carbon emissions - around 40 million tonnes.
