Horticulture print industry woes
Why the Internet will become the medium of choice for the garden industry.
If you were to ask an editor of popular garden magazine how his subscription numbers are fairing, you will probably be told politely - to mind your own business.
It is not a particularly easy subject to deal with when you are in denial but that is exactly what is happening to garden and landscaping publications They just do not want to accept that the 'tipping point' has passed and the slippery slope will compel, those that are still strong enough and have the will, to alter their strategy.
Following the same path as has been practised up until now is doomed to failure and the battlefield will be littered with casualties from the typewriter era.
I covered the subject quite extensively on my Landscape Juice blog with two posts - Paper versus Megabytes the future of printing over pixels, what is your take? - and Is the Horticulture printed publication industry in deep trouble? - that is why I am extremely interested in this post by Samee Mohammad - The rise and rise of online advertising - and I think he is spot on but yet, business owners are still reluctant to switch the mind set away from traditional journals.
What are your thoughts?
